THE ALPHA COURSE IS STILL IN MANY CHURCHES

By Alan Yusko

In these last days of apostasy I have noticed many liberal churches have accepted the latest "trend" of the day. The Alpha course is part of that trend. Liberal churches seek to increase their membership and thus their donation base. The Alpha Course is one way to encourage people to come to church for (compromised) Bible training. Here is a short description of this foolish course:

THE SUBTLE DANGER OF THE ALPHA COURSE-The Alpha Course is a form of "religious science," with millions of followers in thousands of churches-Catholic, Protestant, and evangelical. It was conceived by Nicky Gumbel of Holy Trinity Brompton Anglican Church in England after Gumbel got the "power" through the "Toronto Blessing," later passed it on to Steve Hill, who started the "revival" at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola. Alpha has been endorsed by church leaders from Robert Schuller and the Archbishop of Canterbury to J.I. Packer and Leighton Ford. Alpha presents the gospel at times, but its "conversion" is more to a Christian lifestyle than to Christ the way, the truth, and the life; and its major aim is impartation of "supernatural power," especially healing and speaking in tongues. Participants look forward above all to the big weekend when thy will receive Holy Spirit empowerment. I remember the "testimony" of a man devoted to Eastern Mysticism who "got the Holy Spirit" that weekend-but clearly remained unsaved. [May 2004, The Berean Call].

As you can see there is no church that loves the Lord and sound Biblical doctrine that would want the Alpha Course. The very fact that many churches have adopted this liberal, ecumenical, heretical course is one of the signs of the last days and the great falling away. All this fulfills Bible prophecy in relation to the end days apostasy! God's Word warns that the last days before the return of the Lord Jesus will not be days of revival and spiritual renewal. Instead they will be dark days of apostasy and the rejection of sound Biblical doctrine. Here is what the Bible says:

2 Thess 2
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

I would encourage you to stay far from the Alpha course. There is really no need for it at all. Good old fashioned Bible study is all that is needed to teach and build up the people of God. The preaching of the cross is powerful to encourage God's people and to convict the lost of sin unto salvation. However, in these days of apostasy, many have rejected the Bible for Satanic substitutes.

Even though deception and false teachings abounds, God has given His people all the protection they need. By reading and studing the Bible with a teachable and obedient heart, a person is able to reject and avoid Satan's traps.

How many read the Bible each and every day? Do you?
