HELPERS

Over the years that I've worked at the crossroads I have seen many helpers come and go. Several people get the urge to serve the Lord and then either lose interest or just move on to other things. The following is a description of several helpers that I was able to observe while working at the crossroads.

TED-BETTER-TO-DO. TED claims to be a Christian. He joined me at the crossroads for awhile. At first it looked like he had a burden for lost souls. He would come out on a regular basis and serve God faithfully handing out invitations and talking to those on the broad road. Then as time passed I noticed that TED had other things to do. Soon he started telling me his famous line: Sure I'll be there if I don't have anything better to do. It wasn't long before TED always had something better to do than to serve the Lord. He got more involved socially and soon stopped serving the Lord altogether. I don't see TED much these days. He has moved on to different things. TED talks about starting up a ministry one day, but so far has done nothing. TED has graduated from serving God to doing nothing but seeking out social pleasures.

BILL-MINISTRY-HOPPER: BILL is a person who has joined me at the crossroads from time to time. However he has never attended to the work on a regular basis. One week he is at the crossroads. The next week at a prayer meeting. After that he goes to a Bible study. Then later he will join the choir. BILL gets involved in all kinds of ministry but never really commits to one. Rather than doing one thing and doing it well, BILL does ten things and does them all poorly. When BILL comes to the crossroads he only stays for an hour or so. He always remembers that he has something else to do and rushes off to the next task.

JOHN-WELL-WISHER: John is an interesting fellow. He came out and helped only once. After that he would drop by on a regular basis. He would always wish us well at the crossroads. After talking with us a few minutes he would then leave. What JOHN does is wish us well then he goes and does nothing. We all should be serving God and rather than talking about it we should do something about it. JOHN is not much of a doer. He comes by and tells us to keep up the good work. He then leaves and does nothing.

HARRY-NO-BURDEN: When HARRY was first saved he was on fire for the Lord. He was so thankful that God had saved him from sin and hell. He would eagerly serve God and tell others about the good news of the Gospel. He didn't want people to die and go to that terrible place separated from God for all eternity. However over time something happened to HARRY. Somehow he lost his burden for lost souls. Yes he wants people saved but he no longer wants to do anything about it. HARRY is no longer interested in involving himself in pointing people to the narrow gate. HARRY went from having a burden for lost souls to be saved to having nothing. He just doesn't care. He, like TED-BETTER-TO-DO, has involved himself completely in social activities.

- WIMPY. He claims to be a Christian but has no backbone. He will not stand up for the truth as that may create 'stress' in his life. WIMPY works for a 'Christian'(in name only) ministry involved in gross doctrinal error and compromise. WIMPY just blindly works there and is not concerned with error or lack of sound doctrine that surrounds him every day. Over time WIMPY becomes haughty and proud with an air of personal superiority over others. Recently a false teacher came to his church to hold week long revival meetings. These meetings are related to the demonic laughing revival where people act like animals. WIMPY can take everything in stride. By keeping silent he attended his church revival to hear this false teacher. He doesn't care as WIMPY is not a lover of God and of sound doctrine. WIMPY worked in the crossroads for a short while. He soon fell away without giving any explanation. He just became disinterested and went on to do other things. WIMPY believes that the service he gives to the apostate Christian ministry is enough for the Lord.

Rev 3:
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

MR.SHIPWRECK: - He once served the Lord with zeal. MR.SHIPWRECK once had a burden for lost souls and actively served God. But somewhere he lost that burden. At first serving the Lord was easy. Then troubles and persecution came because of the Word and the narrow way to be saved in Jesus. This became very 'draining' and over time MR.SHIPWRECK lost his burden for lost souls. Since serving God was sometimes draining, MR.SHIPWRECK no longer served God. Yes he still went to church and to prayer meeting but never again did he go to the harvest fields. He now attends a rich church where sound doctrine is not very important. That is fine with MR.SHIPWRECK as he has also lost his love of sound doctrine. He is not a happy person. He is always a bit sad and reserved as he goes through this life of disappointments and pain.

Matt 10:
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Don't get me wrong, I've had good helpers too. The above listing of helper people shows those who are really not interested in serving God. What about you and your service Christian? Are you interested in serving God? Do you have a burden for souls that are lost and dying and heading for an eternity in hell? Do you have the burden to tell them about the narrow gate and the salvation offered by the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you pointing people to the narrow gate? Do you tell people about the salvation freely offered by the Lord Jesus Christ? Do you have a burden for lost souls? Do you care?

Everyone needs to serve God by telling others about the salvation that is available through the ONLY Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Also pray for more committed people to get involved in service. We always need more people out at the crossroads pointing people on the broad road to the narrow gate. Every Christian should share their faith in some way with the lost and dying.

Luke 10:
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

So If you are saved and you know it, TELL OTHERS ABOUT THE SAVIOUR! Make an attempt to reach people in your world of family, friends, and acquaintances.
