Recently I did a search on the internet for the subject of astrology and didn't find very much. Astrology is a very popular form of the occult. It is sad that there is so little written about this great evil sin before the Lord. Hopefully this article will give some needed information!
Astrology is a form of fortune telling and occultism. Do not be deceived as it is all from Satan. Many lost men and women who reject God seek their fortunes in the stars. Instead of the living God and His wisdom and guidance, lost people seek to order their lives by a fortune telling system based on the stars in the heavens. It is really quite foolish to think that stars billions of light years away could influence ones life from day to day. Just think on it and the foolishness of this practice may be apparent!
Sadly, there are many ways for those who reject God to attempt foretelling future events. Witches and mediums use a crystal ball, others use tea leaves, and others use the palm of the hand. A very popular form of trying to tell the future is astrology. The latest charts are posted daily in newspapers and other media sources. Many people check their astrological readings each and every day. It is very cool for lost people to make conversation by asking what is the "sign" of others. Sadly, today astrology is very popular and has a very large following (even among some professing Christians!)
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY
Below is a very common verse from the Bible warning about fortune telling, wizardry, witchcraft, and other forms of occultism. It gives a very clear picture of God's attitude concerning occultism in any form:
Deut 18
10 There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or
his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or]
an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard,
or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD:
and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them
out from before thee.
Above in verse 10 the practice of divination or an observer of times would be a very good description of astrology. In verse 12 God states that these occultic sins are so evil that they are an abomination to Him. An abomination is a very serious sin against God! This means those who practice such sins are openly living in rejection of God and are happy to partake of such evil.
Let me go a step further. People who love and practice the occultic abominations will not be going to heaven. God makes it very clear that the wicked will not spend their eternity in heaven. This means all those who love and practice abominations of the occult are not saved in the first place. These people may claim to be "Christian" and they may even attend a "Christian" church of some kind. However, their love of committing abominations against God shows their unsaved hearts! Here is what the Bible says:
1 Cor 6
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom
of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;
Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,
strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:
of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time
past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the
kingdom of God.
The above are pretty sobering verses! Committing an abomination to God is not a light sin. It is the mark of a person who has rejected God and loves and accepts the evil occultic sins encouraged by the devil. Such sins are done by people who reject and do not love God.
Today in the world Satan is trying to expose and convert as many as possible into the world of occultic abominations. Soon the antichrist will rise up on the world scene and setup his evil, Satanic kingdom. All the occultism is just leading people to a place where they will accept all the antichrist and his evil kingdom has to offer. People are at a point where they must choose God or Satan. They must either choose the light or choose Satan's world of darkness. Sadly many have chosen darkness! Here is what the Bible says:
John 3
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth
not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of
the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh
to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
In these last days many have chosen the world of darkness which is the realm of the devil. As a person rejects God and the light they will naturally gravitate toward the darkness. Verse 19 above states that men actually choose Satan's world of darkness over the light of the Lord.
This choice is very apparent in some in the world today. Here are some common things people say which actually show their rejection of the light and their acceptance of darkness: "I want to go to hell because that is where all my friends are" or "I want to reign in hell" or "heaven is boring as there is no drinking, immorality, etc..." or "I don't want to be a Bible thumper". Such people are really saying: "I reject God and His ways. Instead, I choose sin and rebellion from Satan".
CURSED ARE THOSE WHO PRACTICE ASTROLOGY
People who practice any form of the occult are cursed people. These lost people have rejected God and accepted Satan's world of darkness. As a result they are also rejected by God. The next set of verses show how God despises the entire world of the occult with its idolatry and fortune telling. Of course this includes the abomination of astrology:
Jer 8
1 At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones
of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the
bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the
bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
2 And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon,
and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom
they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom
they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not
be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face
of the earth.
3 And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue
of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the
places whither I have driven them, saith the LORD of hosts.
Verse 2 gives a good description of astrology. Rather than turning to the Lord, people seek the stars and planets. This heavenly part of God's creation is raised to the power of Godhood as people place their guidance and faith into the occultic abomination of astrology. To choose the stars is to reject God.
As a result look at verse 3 above. God says these people are literally choosing death instead of life. The occultic abomination of astrology is for lost hellbound sinners who have rejected God. Rather than seek the Lord these hellbound sinners seek their fortune in the impersonal stars in the sky. Not only is the occultic abomination of astrology evil, it is also a direct insult to God. It sinning by choosing a dead impersonal object in the sky instead of choosing the living God and creator. It is literally worshipping the creation rather than the creator.
LOVERS OF THE OCCULT TO BE DESTROYED
As we have already covered, astrology is part of the list of occult sins that are an abomination to God. All those who love and freely practice abominations before God will be destroyed. Such lost souls will perish in their sins and be cast into the lake of fire forever. Yet people still practice the occult with no concern or shame. People literally commit abominations to God with no concern or shame! Here is what the Bible says:
Jer 8
12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay,
they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore
shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their
visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
13 I will surely consume them, saith the LORD: [there shall be]
no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf
shall fade; and [the things that] I have given them shall pass
away from them.
Above God pronounces judgment on those who love and commit abominations. Let me quickly point out that astrology is not the only form of the occult that is an abomination. Just look at the current popularity of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. This is pure occultism that is filled with all kinds of witchcraft, spells, wizardry, and other forms of the occult. Personally, I call these books/movies witchcraft training manuals! Also, look at rock and roll bands that promote evil, blasphemy, drugs, sexual immorality, and rebellion. This is also an abomination before God and those involved have no conscience or shame in their actions. As a result verse 13 above states that God will destroy them! Lovers of the occult are choosing to make God their enemy!
Here is another verse showing Gods dislike of astrology and their judgment and doom.
Isa 47
13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the
astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up,
and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they
shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall
not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
God says that the astrologer is like dry stubble that is quickly set on fire. These lost souls cannot deliver themselves from the eternal judgment of God. So why would a person think the astrologer is of any value at all?
Jer 10
2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not
dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
God tells those who will listen to him not to learn the ways of the heathen lost hellbound sinner. This is great wisdom but few have ears to hear what the Lord is saying! God does not want people involved in astrology which is wicked and is loved by the God rejecting heathen. Do not be like them and learn their ways! All forms of occultism including Harry Potterism, spells, witchcraft, and wizardry are things that the lost hellbound sinner enjoys. Do not be like these people and do not participate and learn their ways!
CONCLUSION
In this tract we have looked at several warnings from God against the abomination of astrology. This practice is very evil and is a part of the occultic world of fortune telling. We also covered the fact that all occultism is a sin so great that it is an abomination to God. Only people who hate and reject God will love and accept the world of Satan's occultism. These lost people love fortune telling, astrology, Harry Potterism, rock music, and all other forms of occultism.
We also covered the fact that God plans to judge and destroy all those who love and participate in the abominations of occult sins. They are cursed people who have made God their enemy. There is lots of room for the occult loving lost person to burn forever in the lake of fire!
The occultic ways of the devil has the power to corrupt a person's soul. These sins that are an abomination to God, corrupt the heart and lead that person away from God and into the world of sin and darkness. Here are some verses that gives such a warning:
Deut 4
15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no
manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in
Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the
similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness
of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the
likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou
seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host
of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them,
which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the
whole heaven.
Notice verse 16 above. Stay away from the occult lest you too be corrupted and fall into all kinds of abominable sins. Verse 19 indicates that one of the sins that a person who has corrupted his soul with is the sin of astrology.
Messing with the occult in any form is not a light matter. It always opens up the door to the demonic in your life. Nothing but pain, eternal death, and destruction can result from the occult.
People need to make a choice as to who they will serve. Either they will choose the light and serve the Lord or they will choose Satan and his world of darkness and occultic sins. There is really no middle or neutral ground. A person either belongs to the Lord or he belongs to the devil.
The choice is made by what is done with the Lord Jesus. Is the Lord Jesus your Lord and Saviour or have your rejected Him? There are only two types of people in the world. There are the saved people and there are the lost hellbound sinner people. Here is a verse that clearly shows this fact:
John 3
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he
that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of
God abideth on him.
Which person are you? Is the Lord Jesus your Lord and Saviour or is He not? This choice seals your eternal fate!
