IT ALWAYS BITES! - BOOZE!

By Alan Yusko

I'm writing this as a short warning about drinking booze. I believe that booze is a drink for the lost and perishing. Saved Christians have no place in drinking any of the devil's drink! As we get closer to the end of the age lost people drink in order to gain pleasure or to cloud the mind from all the problems and stresses of this life. Drinking also blinds ones mind to the truths of the Word of God and salvation found in the Lord Jesus!

However, booze has a quality in that it is personally energized by Satan himself. It always hurts the person who partakes. I believe it is impossible for a person to drink without evil and painful consequences. The devil's drink will afflict and hurt all who partake - without exception! Below are several warnings and some wisdom from the book of Proverbs. Do you have ears to hear?

Proverbs 23
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

Booze alters a persons physical and mental state. It brings pain, sorrow, shame, and wounds to all who drink. Lets look at the problems listed above individually:

Who hath woe? ... This refers to hurt and trouble in a person's life. Property damage or killing someone driving drunk would be an example of WOE coming into a drinkers life. There are many ways a person can be afflicted by "woes" through partaking of the devil's drink. Woe's would include physical pain, sickness, and death.

Who hath sorrow? Those who drink are inviting pain and sorrow into their lives. Lets say a person gets drunk and picks up a loose and immoral woman. They fornicate and have a "good" time in their drunken stupor. However, one of the person has the AIDS virus, or herpes, or some other easily transmittable deadly disease. Now there is a new infection for that disease. This can mean an early death, or pain and suffering by disease for the rest of ones life. This is just one example of sorrow. There are many more from drunk driving to drinkers disrupting, hurting, and driving away their family members.

Who hath contentions? Not all, but many drinkers get very mean while under the influence of the devil's drink. Some people can be easy to get along with while sober. However, when drinking that same person can become argumentative and mean. Many drunks bring this mean and evil attitude back home and take things out on innocent family members. Other drunkards get in bar-room fights etc. The devil's drink does not bring any of the fruit of the Holy Spirit into ones life!

Who hath babbling? Many drunks like to talk constantly. This is called babbling. An intelligent person can be reduced to a babbling fool while under the influence of the devil's drink. This brings shame to the drunkard.

Who hath wounds without cause? When under the influence of the devil's drink many people hurt themselves and later (when sober) do not remember how they were injured! That is one example. The bottom line on drinking is that it will bring wounds that are either physical, spiritual, or moral into a person's life. All who partake of the devil's drink will be hurt by it. There are no exceptions to this rule!

Who hath redness of eyes? Drinking affects the body. One sign of a drunkard is to simply look at the person's eyes. It is very clear that the drunkard is "not all there" and is not in control of all his facilities. Other physical affects include early death caused by liver damage and other painful diseases.

30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

Who has all the problems associated with verse 29? Here we are told it is those who drink booze. The first reference is to those who tarry long at the wine. In olden days some forms of wine had a very low alcohol content. In order to get drunk a person would have to tarry or drink for a long time (all day).

Next mixed wine is mentioned. This describes all the current wine, beer, and hard liquor available today. Our society today produces wine that has a very strong alcohol content. It is considered strong drink or mixed wine due to its high alcohol content. A person does not really have to tarry long to feel the affects of the alcoholic drinks available today. Those who partake of the devil's drinks will be hurt and afflicted.

31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, [when] it moveth itself aright.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

Verse 32 is the subject of this article! The devil's drink will ultimately hurt the drinker. No one will be immune to the affects of the devil's drink. People may have a few fun booze parties or fellowships. However, like a deadly snake or a poisonous serpent, the booze will bite or sting the drinker. The bites of the devil's drink will come to pass at some point in the life of the drinker. This is just a fact of the devil's drink. A person can not stop the bite of the devil's drink. The rules are simple. If you drink then you will be hurt by the booze. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Next God warns in Proverbs of some additional problems with the devil's drink in addition to the ones found in verse 29.

33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

Drinkers find their morals relax as well as their inhibitions. What a person would never do sober becomes a possibility when under the influence of the devil's drink. Booze encourages a person to fornicate and engage in sexual immorality. The mouth of a drinker will open to speak evil and perverse things. Booze brings out the evil things in a person's heart and they speak of them with their mouths.

34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

This verse is a reference to the loss of facilities a drinker experiences. The devil's booze prevents a person from walking properly. It upsets the senses and makes a person dizzy and sick. The next morning there is always a hangover (sickness) to look forward to. Throwing up is also a part of drinking. Some people drink so much that they have to get on their knees. They do this not to repent before God, but instead to barf in the toilet as their bodies react to the devil's drink!

35 They have stricken me, [shalt thou say, and] I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Drinking dulls the senses and feelings. It is possible to be hurt and not feel the pain while under the influence of Satan's drinks. Yet the end result after all the cursing from the devil's drink, is to go and seek it again! It is very addictive and very socially acceptable in our godless and Christ rejecting society.

CONCLUSION

Drinking always hurts the person drinking. There are no exceptions to this rule. A Christian who belongs to the Lord has no business partaking any of the devil's drink - booze! For all who drink there are evil consequences to pay. The drinker is constantly afflicted by painful hurts and sorrows. But like the fool who never learns, the drinker always goes back for more of the devil's drink.

This article has outlined many painful results of drinking booze. There is no good end result for engaging in the devils booze. All will be hurt by drinking booze.

Booze is truly a drink for lost and perishing people. These people have a void in there heart that can only be filled by the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Since lost people are living their lives in rejection of the Lord Jesus, they try to fill that void with something else. Booze is a temporary filler for that void that gives a little bit of pleasure in between all the afflictions and "bites".

The devil's drink produces fruit but none of it is fruit from the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the devil's drink is all related to pain, suffering, and death. All those who belong to God will avoid the devil's drink! This means booze in any form!

And all God's people said.......... AMEN! And all those with ears to hear said...... AMEN!
