Veneration Of Images

(2131) Basing itself on the mystery of the incarnate Word the seventh ecumenical council at Nicaea (787) justified against the iconoclasts the veneration of icons of Christ, but also of the Mother of God, the angels and all the saints. By becoming incarnate, the Son of God introduced a new “economy” of images. (Page 573)

We are commanded not to make or worship any image of those things in Heaven, on Earth, or in the Oceans. The crucifix is certainly an image of Christ on the cross, who by the way is not a dead savior still hanging on the cross, but is a risen savior setting at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. He is alive and well!

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

Angels are also not to receive praise or worship. The Bible bares this out.

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his (the angel) feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant ... worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Revelation 22:8-9 ...I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, SEE THOU DO IT NOT: for I am thy fellowservant ...worship God.
