In these last days before the return of the Lord Jesus, many need to cleanse their homes of the occultic influences of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, rock music, and other items the Lord will put on your heart.
Below are some verses that gives an example of Christians who did just that. As a result they were greatly blessed and the Lord was exalted. Here is a question for you... do you want the same blessing in your life?
Here is the verses from the Bible:
Acts 19
17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at
Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus
was magnified.
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books
together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the
price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
Looking at these verses collectively we can see that as a result of saving faith and an obedient heart, these Christians destroyed the occult items in their lives. In verse 20 we see God's blessing on what they did.
Let's look closer at the verses:
Acts 19
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.
This verse really sets the stage for what happened as these Christians cleansed their lives from occult items.
1) First they believed. This means they were saved and accepted the
Lord Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
2) Along with believing they came. Their faith resulted in action and
the first thing they did was to come and gather together with other
Christians.
3) Next these Christians confessed and gave testimony. They confessed
their involvement in the occult and renounced it.
As a result of doing 1,2,3 above
4) They shewed their deeds. Saving faith resulted in actions and these actions were not hidden but were open to all to see. The next verse shows the actions these obedient Christians took:
Acts 19
19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books
together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the
price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
These young Christians knew that the occult items from their unsaved lives were wrong and evil. As a result they took action and gathered together all their occult items and books. Rather than selling these evil items or giving them away, these Christians brought these evil items out for the purpose of destroying them. These occult items were not cheap either as many of them were valuable - money wise. Yet, these occultic items were rubbish before the Lord and they were gathered together and destroyed before everyone.
These Christians had a big bonfire and destroyed all their occult books and items. An estimate of the cost was 50,000 pieces of silver. They were very expensive occult items but they were cast into the fire to be destroyed. It was important that the occult items be destroyed. If they sold them, threw them in the trash, or gave them away, someone else could have been oppressed by demons. Destroying the evil items was the only solution.
Why did these Christians do these things and remove the occult and evil items from their homes and their lives? They know that the occult was very evil and was an abomination to the Lord. See the following Scripture:
Deut 18
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son
or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination,
or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard,
or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD:
and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them
out from before thee.
True saving faith results in an obedient heart. These Christians had items from their unsaved lives that displeased the Lord. In fact, they were an abomination to Him. As a result of their loving and obedient hearts, these Christians took action and openly destroyed all the occult items in their homes.
The end result was blessing from the Lord. The Christians who obeyed the Lord were blessed and the unsaved were blessed as many more were drawn to salvation through the Lord Jesus!
TODAY'S APPLICATION
2 Thess 2
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not
come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of
sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
We have been warned! Before the Lord Jesus comes back and before the antichrist comes to power, there will be a great falling away from the Christian faith. Every one who is not a true Christian will fall away into evil and rebellion against the Lord. Churches once solid will fall away as they open their doors to the occult, rock music, women preachers, ecumenicism, and perverted Bible versions.
Today we live in very evil days before the return of the Lord Jesus. Compromise and evil are considered good and many are giving themselves over to all kinds of sin and evil in the name of enjoyment and freedom. As a result they have demonic oppression in their lives. Many who claim to be Christian do not have happy homes of love and peace. In their spirit of rebellion they have embraced all that Satan has to offer. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, rock music and many other evils are "enjoyed" by many who claim to be a Christian. These people also are totally immune to the Bible. They just do not want to hear the fact that the occult is an abomination to the Lord and should be destroyed from their lives.
I have heard many professing Christians make the following false and evil profession:
1) I am a Christian
2) I enjoy Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc.. and think nothing
is wrong with it.
Then these professing Christians are very rude and insulting in their defense of their love of the occult world of Satan. I use the word 'professing' because in reality they are not Christians at all! They do not have an obedient heart like the Christians in Acts chapter 19 quoted above had. Instead these "freedom" loving tares accept all the evil from Satan and claim to be Christian at the same time! In their "freedom" they choose Satan over the Lord.
Who are they fooling? Only themselves! On judgment day they will be cast away from the Lord as He tells them that He never knew them!
Titus 1
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him,
being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good
work reprobate
I would say a person who loves witchcraft and the occult is abominable, disobedient, and reprobate - just like the above verse says!
CONCLUSION
It is time to clean house! If you are a Christian then look through your earthly possessions. Do you have things that the Lord would command you to destroy? Do you have rock and roll or any occult object in your life? If so destroy it now before it destroys you! Do not sell it or give it away so someone else can be oppressed by demons. Instead, destroy completely all your occult and evil items from your home and life.
The end result will be the same! The Christians in Acts chapter 19 were greatly blessed by their act of obedience. If you obey and clean house, you will be blessed as well!
