PHYSICAL SUFFERING DIDN'T DO IT!

By Alan Yusko

Here are some additional thoughts about Mel Gibson's Catholic movie that presented a false Jesus to the world. The entire movie was focused on the physical suffering of the Lord Jesus.

The movie was extremely violent and I would say that the extreme violence will scar the conscience of all who view this evil movie.

I would also say the extreme physical violence shows everything the devil would like to do to the Lord Jesus. The devil hates the Lord Jesus and this evil movie shows in detail all that the devil would like to physically do against Him.

But the point of this article is that the physical suffering that the Lord Jesus endured did not cleanse from sin! In those days crucification was a very common method of capital punishment. The Lord Jesus was not the only one who was scourged and crucified! Many others before and after Him suffered the same death.

Instead, the Lord Jesus paid for the sins of the world after the physical torment was complete and while He was hanging on the cross. At this time the sky grew dark and God poured out all His wrath (due you and me) upon the Lord Jesus. It was during this time the Lord Jesus cried out the following:

Matt 27
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

During that time the Lord Jesus took the full weight of our sin and God poured out all His wrath due that sin upon the Lord Jesus. God brought darkness in the land during the time the Lord Jesus paid the full penalty for sin.

This is how our sins were paid for! The Lord Jesus took the penalty for sin and paid it Himself. His physical suffering was not the penalty for sin. Instead, the wrath of a Holy God poured out upon Him was the penalty for sin when He was hanging on the cross and the sky went dark.

Isaiah 53
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Do you see how Mel Gibson got it all wrong with his violent and demonic little movie that presents a false Catholic Jesus?
