EXTRA-BIBLICAL VISIONS AND DREAMS

By Alan Yusko

Are you shallow and experience based person? Do you doubt the Bible is sufficient for you? Does the Bible fail to give you guidance and comfort in all situations?

Do you feel you require extra-Biblical dreams and visions in addition to the revealed Word of God, the Bible? Do you follow such people who are always having visions (supposedly) from God? If so then you are shallow and very weak (assuming you are even saved in the first place).

Why such a strong stand against dreams and visions? Can't God give visions in these last days? The answer is yes He can. But does He when there is full access to His Word the Bible? The answer is NO. God expects His people to walk by faith and not by sight! The Word of God is all sufficient for all our needs!

2 Cor 5
7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Prov 3
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalm 119
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

God has given His people His Word and the Word of God is sufficient for the walk of faith here on earth. Nothing else is necessary besides faith in the Word of God.

For those who defend all these visions, you are saying and inferring that the Word of God is not sufficient. Instead you believe your Charismatic vision dreamers are required for supplemental information to the Word of God! Visions are very dangerous and simply to be safe, stick with the revealed Word of God, the Bible!

Lets review what was covered so far concerning extra biblical visions.
Visions and dreams:
- Are for people who do not think the Word of God is enough
- Are for experience seeking people rather than people walking with the Lord
- Are for shallow people who do not trust in God or His Word. Instead these people seek ear tickling experiences rather than standing by faith on God's Word!

GOING DEEPER INTO VISIONS

Lets continue looking deeper at dreams and visions

Dreams and visions have been popularized by the apostate charismatic movement. These apostates are constantly having dreams and visions. There are leaders and laymen who claim to get special visions (almost daily) from God.

It is interesting to note that those who have these visions are not not held to account for their dream or vision. What I mean by this is the simple fact that they are never 100 percent correct. These people are constantly wrong as they claim Divine inspiration to their dreams and visions. Here is what the Bible says about all the visions that do not have complete accurate (100%) fulfillment:

Deut 18
20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that [is] the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

I remember, years ago, hearing a popular visiting preacher. We went to his services and they were interesting. However, he told us of these talks and visions he gets from God. Being a young Christian at the time, I didn't know what to think about all of it. I remember taking note of one of his specific vision "predictions". He even gave it a time frame of when this event would occur (according to what the Lord had supposedly told him). As time went on I proceeded to watch his prophecy/vision/dream turn into a false one. The thing spoken did not happen. Did God make a mistake when he told this person (supposedly) the things that were going to happen? No, I was quite sure the problem was not with God! I saw a pattern that is very apparent to all the dream and vision claimers. The pattern is that these people are false and their dreams and visions are not from God because they are not accurate.

Here is another example. Remember around 1996 or so when some big mouthed Charismatic preacher had a vision. In this vision/dream, God supposedly told him that in June of that year, He would "rip" evil from earth! Well, the Charismatics really got on that bandwagon! Even TBN jumped on the bandwagon for the great event. It didn't matter that this so-called vision contradicted the Bible. It was a big thing and was surely going to happen because this preacher-man had a direct revelation from God! Well to say the least, nothing happened! It could never happen as God has no plans to "rip" evil from the earth in that manner. He plans to let prophecy run its course. The world will have to endure the evil reign of the Antichrist and no loudmouth false charismatic vision/dreamer can change that fact!

Two points have been made above:

1) People who have dreams and visions see and hear things that do not come to pass. They claim to hear directly from God, yet nothing happens! In the verses above (Deut 18:20-22) God is not surprised. These are false prophecies from false prophets/teachers. It is very sad that people are allowed to have all kinds of dreams and visions, and when checked out, they simply do not come to pass! Why do people continue to listen to them?

2) Many of these dreams and visions contradict the revealed Word of God. Keep in mind that God is not the author of confusion. He is not going to write one thing in the Bible and contradict that by a dream and a vision. Everything must line up with God's revealed Word of God. The vision of God "ripping" evil from the world should have been dismissed immediately because it contradicts the Bible!

Why do people refuse to call these vision/dreamers to account? It has to be because these people are just as shallow and gullible. They do not trust in God or have faith in His Word. Instead ear tickling experiences are sought after for enjoyment and pleasure!

There is a curse in the Bible for those who would dare to add to or take away from the Bible. I would say that false extra-Biblical visions and dreams are in danger of contradicting God's revealed Word. Here is what the Bible says:

Rev 22
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

CAN GOD USE VISIONS

I don't want to make the error of limiting God. I'm not saying in this article that God cannot use visions or dreams. Yes He can if He so chooses. Does He use visions today. I believe with easy access to the Bible in print or on the internet there is no need. If people have easy access to His Word then there is no need for visions or dreams. This means that after the rapture of the Church when the antichrist is destroying Bibles and killing Christians that God could very well use visions and dreams. He may very well do so in those terrible days. One thing for sure. A vision from God will have two characteristics:

1) It will be 100 percent correct. What God says will come to pass exactly as stated and within the given time frame.
2) God will never contradict His revealed Word, the Bible!

Again, I make the point that there is no need for visions in these days as we all have easy access to all kinds of Bibles. Myself, I have printed Bibles, big and small. I have an electronic Franklin Bible, a Bible on my PDA, several Bibles on my personal computer, and access to Bibles on the internet! Why do I need any extra-Biblical revelations? I have easy access to the Word of God and it is sufficient for ME! God's Word meets my needs. I trust and I hope in the promises of God and have no interest in extra-Biblical revelations! May you do the same and find that the Bible is sufficient!

CONCLUSION

Why do people refuse to put these false prophets and vision seers to the test. By doing this all of their false prophecies would be exposed and the false teacher could then be rejected. But this is not done by their narrow and shallow hearers so the wolves continue on with their false dreams and visions!

2 Tim 4
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

In these last days of apostasy people will grow weary of the plain and simple Gospel message. These people will search out and seek ear tickling stories and fables to enjoy. They will find people who have all kinds of ear tickling false prophecies and visions. Sound Biblical doctrine and teaching will not be endured by these folks as they seek ear tickling experiences and extra-Biblical revelations. Wake up folks as we are in these days right now!

Do you want to have 100 percent assurance that you can get guidance and not be led astray? Stick to the Bible. Put your faith in all the promises in the revealed Word of God. Read it and study it daily and you will receive guidance and spiritual protection. Your walk with God will not always be easy. There are times of trial where we, as Christians, suffer and must learn to blindly trust and cling unto the Lord. The walk of faith is not always easy. There are mountain tops and valleys one must go through. It is very easy to go over the mountain tops with the happy and joyous events in our lives. But valleys which are filled with pain and trials must be endured. We do this by drawing nigh unto the Lord and trusting in Him with all our hearts. As we walk in faith we grow and mature in faith. Sometimes that is a painful process. There is no easy way to escape as growing in the Lord is the will of the Lord for all His people.

Stay far away from people who claim to have a "special" connection with God and are filled with all kinds of dreams and visions from God! If you put their so-called visions and dreams to the Bible test you will find that all of them are false dreamers. I want to repeat myself on this point. When these dreamers have dreams and visions then put them to the test. This is what a good Berean would do!

1) Get specifics from their so called vision. Each and every vision must be 100 percent accurate and fulfilled. There can be no errors. This point alone will get rid of all the dreamers and vision deceivers today.

2) Any vision will never contradict the revealed Word of God. The moron who had a vision of God "ripping" evil from the earth in a single day simply contradicts the revealed Word of God in the Bible. That foolish vision can be immediately rejected!

You will find that all the people who claim to have visions and special revelations from God will prove to be false if they are put to the test! Remember every single part of the vision must come to pass exactly and within the time frame if it comes from God. By putting these deceivers to the test they will be quickly exposed. Once you expose a false prophet then have nothing to do with that person. Stay away! If you go to such a church that supports false dreams and visions, leave! Do not forgive these wolves and deceivers. Stop listening to them, reject them, and have nothing to do with them! These deceivers are dangerous and should be avoided.
