WEEP AND HOWL RICH MEN!

By Alan Yusko

In this world there is a type of person who is obsessed with money and temporal riches. These people have the goal of acquiring as much wealth as they can possibly acquire by any means possible.

But the day is coming when rich men will weep and howl over their lost riches. The Bible predicts a time when the wealth of the rich will be destroyed leaving nothing behind but the anguish and tears of the rich.

Lets start by looking at the following verses from the Bible:

James 5
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

After reading the above verses several points can be made:

We are now in the last days before the return of the Lord Jesus. This means that the above verses will be fulfilled at some point soon.

There are many money hungry lost people out there. These are rich folks who run companies that are fleecing (stealing) from the general public with their inflated prices on their products. We are not talking about just a few companies but many! Lets quickly look at the gas companies. They have been stealing from the consumer with grossly inflated prices at the pumps for many years now. They also restrict technological advances that will remove the need for petrol or will extend the gas mileage for a vehicle. The end result of their current program requires the consumer to make frequent trips to the gas pumps to pay crazy prices for fuel. It is not just gas companies who are getting madly rich off the consumer. There are banks with crazy service charges, software companies with a monopoly on their software etc. The list can go on and on! The rich have 'heaped' up many treasures for themselves for the last days.

Many people are in love with money and their goal is to get rich at any cost. They accomplish these goals by the following:

- inflated prices
- deceptions in advertising
- inaccurate measurements
- employees are cheated of their wages (unpaid overtime, low wages)
- destroying competition

The good news is that God is aware of it all. He wrote the above warning to all the rich people who have made money their first love and their god.

Here are some move points to ponder:

- Get ready to weep and howl rich man as we are in the very last days now! The signs pointing to the soon return of the Lord Jesus are all in place! This means the above verses will also be fulfilled in the not-too-distant future.

- There is no financial security whatsoever in these last days. The world is a troubled mess. The godless leaders are conspiring to setup their new world order or the kingdom of the antichrist. Financial collapses are coming before the birth of the kingdom of the antichrist!

- Gold and silver which has traditionally been stable will fail one day. In troubled times people have counted on the safety of putting their savings in gold or silver. That rule will not apply in these last days when God fulfills the above prophecy.

- The goal of the rich is to heap up earthly treasures. Lost people live for the here and now. They think very little of eternity as it is a big unknown to them. What happens after death is always considered a distant event and something not to worry about now. Therefore the goals of lost people is to gain wealth and riches that can be enjoyed now. The ethics of gaining those riches are not an issue.

Conversely the goal of Christians is to heap up heavenly treasures. Of course we all need financial resources to pay bills and meet financial obligations. However, the driving force in the Christian's life is not focused on earthly riches. Christian's know that earthly riches are temporary and will pass away. All the treasures of lost people are temporal or earthly and are not useful after this life is over. However, real treasures can be taken to heaven. Do you know the greatest treasure possible? People getting saved and coming to heaven! You cannot take gold, cars, electronics to heaven. However, saved loved ones and saved friends will all be together for an eternity in heaven!

Next lets look verse by verse at the Scriptures from James

James 5
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

When God brings to pass this prophecy, the lost rich person will literally weep and howl because of their miseries. They live their life centered on earthly wealth and when it is destroyed the rich will scream and be in great torment.

2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

God is going to destroy the riches of the wealthy who have made earthly treasures their god.

3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

The security a rich person has in money will be broken. Rich people have spent their lives doing nothing but heaping up their personal treasures of wealth. When that wealth is destroyed it will break the back of the lost rich people. Notice the timing of when God will fulfill this prophecy. It will happen sometime in the last days. Guess what?... Right now we are in the very last days before the return of the Lord Jesus!

4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

God is aware of the evil means the rich have used to heap up their earthly treasures. They took advantage of other people and used lying and deception to increase their wealth. Little do the rich realize but God is watching and He is aware of their actions.

5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

The rich have indulged themselves in the "good life". They have surrounded themselves with all kinds of pleasures and have grown content in their lives in rejection of the Lord. Little do they realize that the day of their destruction will come very quickly and unexpectedly. Just as animals are fattened up and then taken to the slaughterhouse, the same senario will happen to the lost rich person.

6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

In order to gain riches the wealthy have killed, cheated, and hurt other people. Remember God is aware of these evil practices and He will reward the wicked rich person justly and at the right time!

CONCLUSION

Many in these last days have spent all their time and energy in the pursuit of earthly riches. They have lied, cheated, and used all forms of deceptions to gain wealth. Through it all the lost rich person has no heart or time for the Lord Jesus. God is far from the thoughts of the godless rich person.

As a result the time of judgment will come. God will destroy that which the lost rich person loves most! (his finances!) Such a person will live to see the destruction of his wealth! It will be poetic justice to the godless rich. They used evil means as they became rich and heaped up earthly treasures with no concern for the Lord. God will send His judgments upon those treasures and this will cause the rich to wail and weep with great sorrow.

The timing of this coming judgment from the Lord is in the last days. Well here is some news for you to consider, we are in the very last days right now before the return of the Lord Jesus! This means in the not-too-distant future these verses will be completely fulfilled.

People need to realize that earthly wealth is really quite useless in terms of eternity. We cannot take earthly riches with us after this life is through. While we are here on earth each of us is entrusted with a portion of worldly wealth and we are expected to be good stewards of that wealth. We are to gain our money via Godly methods that please the Lord. In all things we are to humbly lay it all before the throne of God in gratitude for His supply and care. That is a very different attitude from the godless rich person!

So which type of person are you as you read this article? Is money the false god you serve or is money a tool to be wisely used in such a way that pleases the Lord?

Matt 6
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
