WORKING FOR THE LORD

By Alan Yusko

Philippians 1
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

I recently heard a sermon about the above verse. The speaker made some good points including the fact that here on earth we live for the Lord Jesus Christ.

In conclusion, he stated that Christians must do more for the Lord Jesus. Whatever you are doing now... do more. While you have the health for it... do more. etc...

BE FAITHFUL

Myself, have to disagree a bit. As I look around I see many people not being faithful on what God has already given them to do!

We all should be doing things in service to the Lord. Everyone has been given different spiritual gifts therefore we do different things in service to the Lord. The important issue is to be faithful in what the Lord has given you to do. Be faithful and ready so when you stand before the Lord, He will say to you: Well done my good and faithful servant.

Sadly today many people are not being faithful in service. They have compromised their faith and stand for the Lord Jesus. Others have rejected sound doctrines in the Bible and accepted heresies and lies from the devil. When confronted, good old fashioned stubbornness takes hold and the person refuses to repent and make the needed corrections. This is not pleasing to the Lord. I have seen people go very light in defending the faith. They know better but they do little to warn and equip God's people from the dangers of the devil in these last days. Pastors and church leaders need to warn their people about the dangers of the occult, rock music, ecumenicism, false teachings. Not all of them do this on a regular basis.

Therefore I would say to be faithful in what the Lord has given you to do in service to Him. Once you have a clear conscience that you are faithful, at that time you may consider doing more. Many times after being faithful, the Lord Himself will guide you into greater service and give you more to do.

DO SOMETHING

If you are not doing anything for the Lord at all then prayerfully consider doing a good work. If your health is bad then prayer warriors are always needed. A person can always leave a Gospel tract. Seek the Lord as to what He would have you to do. We should all be doing somthing! Here is what the Bible says:

Eph 2
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Notice above that after salvation, God has a job for each of His children to do. We all have different jobs as we all have different gifts. However, God has ordained His people to be saved unto good works. So whatever God has led you to do, be sure to do it faithfully. Don't worry about adding 'more' works until you are faithful in what you already have.

Whatever happens do not allow yourself to be led astray by the multitude of deceptions in these last days. Remember to be faithful to the Lord and always be ready to stand before Him. One day the rapture will happen and when it does, it will be a complete surprise.
